FOREWORD
~11 /TANY hundreds of books have been written -*^- on New Zealand, but none of them has attempted, in a short space, to deal with all the matters on which we have touched in this book. Our object has been to present New Zealand in her different phases to those who have not seen our Dominion. It is impossible in a small book to do more than deal briefly with our subject. We hope, however, we may have succeeded in faithfully showing in a brief way what New Zealand is, and what has been done by her people. Full information can be obtained from many larger treatises. A list of books dealing with New Zealand, and her publications, is to be found in the New Zealand Bibliography prepared by the late Dr Hocken and published by the Government.
