With Sharing active in Write, select some text, either with the right arrow cursor, or by clicking and dragging. Copy it. Now bring up the Frame.
The first time we did this, we left some mysteries that we can get to now. There are a few more still for later.
You will see icons on all four sides of the Frame now, answering one of our earlier questions. What are they for? Make notes on what you know or can find out by exploring, and then we will talk.
You are supposed to know the four View icons at the top left, which echo four buttons on the top row of your keyboard: Neighborhood, Group, Home, and Activity. You should have a fair idea what each one does, including what each view is for.
You should recognize the Journal icon, and the Write icon, and any icons for other activities you have open.
So much for the top row.
On the right, you are supposed to see two XO icons, one for you, and one for—Yes, what is that for? Point at it. The menu gives you a name, and options for friends and for inviting the other person to share your Write Activity. This is a bit odd, since this other person is already sharing Write, but we'll let that go.
On the left side, where have you seen that icon before? Does that suggest anything to you? What do you see when you point at the icon? Hmm, Remove, Open, Keep. What do they do? Ah, well, if you tried Remove first, you'll have to go and get another in order to try Open and Keep.
On the bottom edge, the icons are all over to the right. Starting at the right, then, what do the icons look like? Do you know what they are for? Point, and look at the names and menu items, including information and commands. Is that clear? Don't worry if you don't know what an IP address is. You can't discover it on your own, but you can look it up. What about Create new wireless network? I don't know what it did when I clicked it, but my XO is connected to the mesh network. What if I try it again? Did that make any difference?
You might also see icons for storage devices such as flash cards (plugged into a slot below the screen), or USB flash drives. OK, names, Unmount, space free, that's fine. Click the icon. Wait, the Journal opened, and it says it's empty, or it has a completely different list from everything we did before!
Confusing, but no worries. Dismiss the frame. You will see a Journal window with two icons in a bar at the bottom. The storage unit is highlighted. Click the XO icon. Your Journal is back! Whew!
Now, what is the point of all of this? Select a journal item, and drag it to the storage unit. You get a new cursor shape when you do this. Now click the storage unit again.
Bug: If the user does not have permission to write to an external storage device, there should be a message saying so, and suggesting what to do about it. As it is, I drag items to device icons, everything looks good, and then the items aren't there. Dragging from a USB stick to the XO works fine.
Mystery: Why do some clippings show a bit of copied text, and just say Open, and others show no content, but say Open with, and give a menu of, for example, Write and Etoys?
There has been error in communication with booki server. Not sure right now where is the problem.
