Dativ

Dativ is another case like nominativ and akkusativ. Dativ is used with indirect objects in a sentence. The following are examples of sentences with indirect objects bolded:

The woman gave the policeman a sandwich.
We go to the market on our bicycle.

The definite articles change for dativ objects like this:

der - dem
die - der
das - dem

The plural definite article for Dativ is den.

Indefinite articles become:

ein - einem
eine - einer
ein - einem

There is no plural for indefinite articles.

Dativ is very commonly used when describing the position of an object with an, unter, neben rechts, auf etc.
